Scholarship 101:
Senior should actively pursue these opportunities now. There are basically three kinds of scholarships: University, National Programs and Local Scholarships.

University: Applying ON TIME is the most important goal. Many colleges have automatic scholarship levels. They are based on the student's ACT/SAT and GPA. Most universities/colleges begin the offer at 20 ACT and 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale). The student must apply by each college's deadline. Research the specific colleges as some have automatic scholarships once a student applies. Whereas, other colleges may have a separate scholarship application. Colleges also have their own searchable database of scholarship opportunities.

National Programs: There is a wealth of scholarship available to all. Register with a scholarship search engine such www.fastweb.com to receive information about opportunities. Do not get scammed or pay any money for a scholarship search.

Local Scholarships: Many local scholarships are offered to only Maumee High School students. The odds are in your favor with these. The big chunk of these scholarships become available in February. Below are links to four scholarship web sites.

Finaid.com

Scholarships.com

Scholaraid.com

Be careful, scholarship searches are free. Do not get scammed! Do not pay anyone a fee for helping you find scholarships. The library and your parent's places of employment are other great resources to find money.

The Maumee High School Guidance Department has created a scholarship chart for the Class of 2011. This list represents only a small percentage of available scholarships. You should look for other options as well. The Internet, library, churches, and parents' places of employment are other resources to find money. The deadlines on the chart are only estimates based on last year's due dates. They may not be 100% accurate and we will not know for certain until information is received at MHS. There is no guarantee that every scholarship will be offered again this year. Students are responsible for all mailings unless specified that a scholarship must be turned in to the guidance department. There are several scholarships that indicate "For MHS Senior" or "SeniorS!" These specific scholarships will be awarded to a MHS senior(s). Be sure to apply because many of these local scholarships are NOT based on need but rather your accomplishments throughout your high school career. Take your chances, odds are in your favor. An application that takes an hour or two to complete may be worth $1,000s. Finally, if you click on a link or download and a page does not load, this is most likely because we have not yet received information for the scholarship source. Check back by clicking on the link below to see an up-to-date chart.

College Application Procedures:
The student is responsible for meeting deadlines and completing all necessary paperwork.

1. Secure and complete the application using either a paper version or online version. If using an online application, be sure to download all pages, including a counselor page (if required). If you applied online, your application will not be complete until they receive your official transcript.

2. Complete the “Official College Transcript Request Form” and give to your counselor. Allow at least two days to process. Attach all necessary forms such as: application (unless you applied online), letters of recommendation (if required), application fee, School/Counselor report or College Prep Form (if required), and an envelope addressed to the college admissions office.

3. Your counselor will complete the guidance counselor and school official parts of the application and attach an official transcript. The counselor will seal the application and transcript and return to student to mail.

4. Please make certain to meet all application deadlines. It is suggested that applications be submitted by the end of November. However, look for deadlines for special admissions and scholarships that might be earlier in September or October.

Athletic Eligibility and the NCAA:

Athletic Eligibility
- Eligibility is determined at the end of each trimester. The required 1.5 grade point average shall be cumulative for all courses taken the previous trimester. Athletes must also meet OHSAA standards. In order to be eligible in grades 9-12, a student must be currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school immediately preceding the grading period. During the preceding grading period, you must have received passing grades in a minimum of four one-credit courses or the equivalent that count toward graduation. Make sure you schedule enough courses for the next school year. Should you need further information regarding athletic eligibility, please contact the Athletic Director, Mr. Szynder.

NCAA Clearinghouse - Seniors planning to enroll in college as a freshman during the 2009-2010 academic year and wish to participate in Division I or Division II sports must be certified by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse, not the university, will analyze the athlete's academic records to determine if he or she meets the NCAA requirements.

The first step in the process is to file an NCAA application with the clearinghouse. Ideally this should be done around October of their Senior year. An application can be obtained on-line. Be sure to download the Request for Transcript and give it to your school guidance counselor. Use this link:

Class of 2011 athletes who may be considering Division I or Division II collegiate sports should include the NCAA code for score reports on the ACT or SAT test registration form as the NCAA will not accept these scores from the MHS transcript.

Post Secondary EnrollmeCtions (PSEO):
Post Secondary Enrollment Option, or PSEO, is a program that allows high school students to enroll in college courses while still attending high school. During this time, they have an option to receive both high school and college credit. Most private colleges do not accept credit that is needed for high school graduation. Check with individual colleges concerning credit.

Dual Enrollment:
Dual Enrollment is an acceleration mechanism that allows students to pursue an advanced curriculum and earn post secondary credit while in high school. Maumee High School has partnered with Owens Community College to offer such courses at Maumee High School.

1. February 28, 2011 - Mandatory meeting for parent and student participation in PSEU or Dual Enrollment for 2011/12 school year.

2. March 31, 2011 - Intent to participate for the 2011/12 is due to the Guidance Office.

3. Obtain and complete an application from your high school Guidance office. Bring the completed application to your guidance counselor to fill in the school official parts of the application and attach an official transcript.

4. Once admitted to college, you will be instructed by the individual college regarding scheduling. Some may require an ACT or PLAN TEST scores or test of their own.

5. Keep your high school counselor informed of your course enrollment plans.

6. Remember 7.5 credits is the maximum you can earn in one year. If you exceed the maximum, you pay.
• 4-6 college semester hrs = 1 high school credit
• 2-3 college semester hrs = 0.5 high school credit
• 1 college semester hrs = 0.25 high school credit

If you have any further questions, contact the college of your choice:
• UT: Terry Lentz 419-530-1250
• BGSU: Jackie Dakich 1-419-372-9876
• Owens: Joe Carone 567-661-7777
• Lourdes: Melissa Clarke 419-824-3785

Schedule Changes & Procedures:
Planning a schedule for the next school year is a difficult task, and situations may occur requiring a change in the schedule. Changes have serious effect on class size, teacher assignments, and the overall master schedule. Thus, students and parents are urged NOT to plan a program with the idea that it can be changed. Only the following reasons will constitute a need for changes.

1. A technical error was made in the process of scheduling the student's request.
2. The student has been academically misplaced.
3. There is a scheduling conflict. There is a scheduling overload.

Process for a Schedule Change:
1. Pick up a schedule change form request in the guidance office. Complete the form and have your parents sign it.
2. Return the completed form to the guidance office. A counselor will contact the student regarding the requested change.
3. Schedule changes for the current trimester will NOT take place after day 6 of the trimester. Most of the changes will take place on day four, five and six.
